Structure of the BBC
The BBC is a cross-media organization- one of the largest in Europe.
This means it is vertically and horizontally integrated
Vertical Integration
- In which a media company has the ability to control the production (pre, prod, post), distribution and exchange (consumption/exhibition) of a product
- They have their own buildings and equipment to create their own films. This allows them to create all their products (DVD's) internally, it also allows them to distribute them all themselves.
Advantage
- Complete ownership
- Gain 100% profit
- Won't need to rely on others
Disadvantages
- Owners invest a lot of money which may not succeed
- May use the same political stance
Horizontal Integration
- In which a media company has a number of subsidiary companies that are used to support the marketing of its products
Advantage
- Increased support and awareness
Disadvantage
- Not a lot of profit
- Not much say in what is going to be produced
PSB example - BBC Doctor Who
Synergy - The meaning of business' working together

Not a bad blog post here, however moving forward to help with your revision start using colours/the highlighter tool to differentiate sections e.g. keywords & definitions.
ReplyDeletePlease go back to the top of your post and define the PSB - you'll need to know their key aims.
A PSB aims to-
-Relect the diversity of the UK
-Inform us
-distinctive original content.
-Attempts to produce programmes that aren't carbon copies of America content
